Cassava is one of Thailand's major commercial crops. Freshly harvested roots can be processed into starch or desserts, or sliced and dried for a variety of other uses.
Fresh roots need to be transported to cassava processing plants on the day of harvest and turned into chips or starch as soon as possible. The longer they remain in storage at the factory, the lower their starch content becomes. Plants therefore generally complete chipping and drying, or starch processing, within 4 days of harvest to maintain product quality.
A wheel loader for cassava processing is part of the plant’s cassava factory equipment; as a root crop loader, it collects, stockpiles and transfers material over short distances between handling points. To get the most from the machine, first identify where the workflow is being held up. Explore the OXPLO wheel loader range to compare machine specifications.

Follow the workflow and look for places where material waits:
• Receiving area: Do unloaded roots occupy the space needed by the next delivery?
• Stockpile: Does the loader have to take a long route or reposition repeatedly to reach the material?
• Production-line inlet: Is the hopper still waiting for a refill even though roots are already on site?
Although these delays occur at different points, they all affect when the same load of roots reaches the processing line. The result is more waiting after delivery.
Delivery schedules need to match the plant’s receiving, stockpiling and feeding capacity to prevent these delays.
Even when roots are unloaded at a single point, they may be left scattered around the area. The wheel loader can gather and transfer them to the designated stockpile, ready for processing.

The stockpile location should also suit the next trip to the hopper, without adding excessive travel or blocking access for delivery vehicles. For a model-level reference, see the OX930 wheel loader product page.
Having the loader stop repeatedly to collect materials will inevitably slow down the feeding process. So, pre-gathering materials at one designated spot can prevent this bottleneck and keep hopper-feeding on schedule.
Fresh roots lose starch after harvest, so a longer wait in the receiving area leaves less available for processing. Once the roots have been gathered, they need to reach the hopper promptly. This is one of the wheel loader’s main jobs.
The hopper’s inlet height and the required dump reach need to be checked. The raised bucket should align with the opening and reach the intended discharge point. This avoids repeated repositioning that adds time to each feeding cycle.

Buyers often focus first on rated load capacity or engine power. Dump height is also important, especially when the loader needs to transfer materials into trucks or other receiving vehicles.
The bucket must clear the vehicle's side panel and reach a suitable discharge position. Before choosing a machine, measure the body height of the trucks commonly used at the plant. This helps determine the dump height required for loading operations. For a buying checklist, see the dumping-height and reach guide and OX936L model specifications as examples.
Once the chips are washed, sliced, and sun-dried, they need to be stored or moved to the next stage — and a wheel loader handles these short-distance transfers to prevent yard pile-ups and delays. For varying materials, review OXPLO attachment options when planning bucket configurations.

Figure 4. Moving dried cassava chips and loose materials across the plant yard.
Trucks primarily carry material over long distances. Wheel loaders collect, move and load it. If trucks spend much of their time waiting for scattered material to be gathered, another truck may not be what the plant needs.
In this case, a wheel loader often provides a more effective way to accelerate bulk material handling and staging.

In short, at a cassava processing plant, a wheel loader has several jobs to take care of: supplying raw materials to the hopper, transferring dried chips and by-products, and loading outbound trucks as they arrive.
But equipment alone is not enough. Clear traffic routes and well-positioned stockpiles are equally important. When the yard is properly organized, these separate tasks can be handled by one suitably configured wheel loader, with less time lost to truck waiting and repeated manual handling.

Wheel Loader FAQ
How much does a wheel loader cost?
The cost of a wheel loader varies depending on its rated load capacity, engine configuration, attachments, and optional features. Compact wheel loaders generally cost less than larger construction models. For an accurate quotation, contact OXPLO with your application requirements, preferred specifications, and destination country.
What is the fuel consumption of a wheel loader?
Fuel consumption depends on the loader size, engine power, operating conditions, and workload. Compact wheel loaders typically consume less fuel than larger models used in heavy-duty construction. Proper maintenance, efficient operating practices, and selecting the right machine size can help reduce fuel costs and improve productivity.
What is the lifting capacity of a wheel loader?
A wheel loader's lifting capacity is determined by its rated load. OXPLO offers wheel loaders with rated load capacities ranging from approximately 1.6 tons to 5 tons, making them suitable for agriculture, construction, material handling, and industrial applications. Always select a machine with sufficient capacity for your intended workload.
Can a wheel loader be used with pallet forks?
Yes. Many OXPLO wheel loaders can be equipped with pallet forks through a quick coupler system. This allows the machine to handle palletized goods, construction materials, agricultural products, and warehouse cargo, making it a versatile alternative to dedicated material handling equipment in certain applications.
How often should a wheel loader be serviced?
Regular maintenance is essential for maximizing machine performance and lifespan. Daily inspections should include checking engine oil, hydraulic fluid, coolant levels, and tire condition. Scheduled maintenance intervals vary by model and operating hours, but following the manufacturer's maintenance guidelines can help prevent unexpected downtime and costly repairs.
What is the difference between a wheel loader and a skid steer loader?
The primary difference is size, lifting capability, and maneuverability. Wheel loaders generally offer higher lifting capacities, larger buckets, and better performance for moving bulk materials over longer distances. Skid steer loaders are more compact and excel in confined spaces where tight turning and versatility are required. The best choice depends on your job site conditions and application needs.
What engine brands are available on OXPLO wheel loaders?
OXPLO wheel loaders are available with different engine configurations depending on the model and market requirements. Engine options may include reliable diesel engines designed to deliver strong performance, fuel efficiency, and easy maintenance. Please contact our sales team for specific engine options available in your region.
Do you provide operator training and technical support?
Yes. OXPLO provides after-sales support and technical assistance to help customers operate and maintain their equipment efficiently. Our team can offer guidance on machine operation, routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and spare parts support to ensure long-term reliability and productivity.
